Web Advertizing Module Not too Smart
While reviewing the STL’s string class functions at http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/string/string/, the following ad was displayed at the bottom of the page.

Although, I am interested in those kinds of strings too.

Worse than RAP!
I have finally stumbled upon something that is actually worse than RAP ‘music’… RAP Kareoke.
E-GADS, MAN!!! What an awful pile of steaming SHE-IT!
Slightly worse than Vogon poetry…
I actually considered jamming a straw into my ear to stop the pain.
No amount of alcohol could make it even slightly bearable.
I don’t even think boobs could have made it better.
Several hundred miles from dry land, and I still considered jumping overboard.
Words…can not describe…the agony…the horror…
US Cellular calls to tell me that they fixed a problem with my bill
My disdain for the wireless companies in this country is no secret. However, I must give US Cellular credit for being the least evil of the lot. In fact, today I received a phone call from an actual human being to tell me that they had corrected a glitch in their system which had caused a problem on my bill. My wife and I share minutes on one of their family plans, and over Christmas, I upgraded to the HTC Touch Pro2. The wife couldn’t find a phone that she liked better than her Razr, so she did not upgrade, and as such did not re-up her contract. We ended up with one phone under contract and one not under contract. Now, anyone who has had experience with ANY large company knows that this is a recipe for disaster and will certainly cause some headache at some point down the road. Well, it wasn’t very long before the headache presented itself in the guise of a double billing for our family plan.
I called them up, and in less than 5 minutes our account had been manually corrected and the agent advised me of my actual bill…which I promptly paid. Unfortunately, this was not the end of the road…the following month, once again, we were double billed. I called them up again, and in a couple of minutes all seemed to be resolved. The agent informed me that there was a note on my account indicating that the problem had been found and fixed in their system; however, the billing had been processed before the fix was in place.
Shockingly, this afternoon, I received a call from someone at US Cellular to verify that in fact it was a system glitch and had been fixed. The lady assured me that the double billing would not happen again. Surely, there is some risk that I will, in fact, see the double billing again next month; but, I’ve got to tip my hat to USCC for following through on the issue.
US Cellular has a large call center here in Knoxville and contributes not only jobs but also a nice publicly accessible sports complex to the area. Their call plans are less expensive, their policies less restrictive, and their smart phones are completely uncrippled.
With all of those facts in mind….AT&T, Verizon…you can SUCK IT!!!!
It must change a person…
A few weeks ago I heard a story from a co-worker which opened my eyes considerably to his particular personality quirks. Dan is a good guy…a bit gruff at times, but basically a good guy. He is an ex-marine…although, he would just say a marine. I must admit that when I first met Dan six years ago, I was somewhat put-off by his, how shall I put it…rough edges. However, in the past several months of actually spending more time with him, I’ve decided he is actually a decent fellow. He takes care of his elderly mother who suffers from an extreme case of Alzheimer’s disease, and when push comes to shove, gets the job done in many areas. Read the rest of this entry »
